Yo what’s up? May
18, 2013
Well transfers were a
success. Everything worked out pretty well for the most part. Well things
actually weren't too crazy. That's partly because we're now pretty experienced
and know what to expect and to prepare for. So we've got things down pretty
good when it comes to transfers.
Ok well I will start
at the beginning.
Monday was a little crazy;
it was the day before transfers. Also the church is doing a big update to their
financial system, so we can’t pay anyone or make any sort of transactions
between the 16th through the 26th. So we were trying to get everything paid
before the cutoff date and before transfers since everything would be crazy
that day. In the morning I paid rent with Elder Moyer. It takes a few hours because
we have to review each of the apartments. The rest of the day I worked on
various things and helped the assistants a lot with stuff. They were pretty
busy because Elder Lindsley still had to do all
his responsibilities as Assistant plus get packed because he went
home on Tuesday. So I actually got to make the transfer slideshow. I made it
look really nice as usual ;) and I put my nice new logo in it. Oh yeah and all
mixed in to Monday we had to do mission stats which we almost forgot about because
we had so many other things to do. Us and the assistants ended up staying at
the office until a little after 11 that night. Oh and I also got asked to be a
District Leader by Elder Cannon.
Tuesday was the big
day - Transfers. We started it early by waking up at 4am. Us and the Assistants
had to drive all the departing missionaries to the airport. Elder Cannon had his new companion with him
since Elder Lindsley was going home. The new assistant is Elder Larson he is a Spanish
missionary that came out with me. So transfers went good. They actually asked
all the sister missionaries not to come, because all the sisters are training
except ONE companionship. With this transfer the number of sisters in our
mission almost doubled, and we went from a little over 200 missionaries to
close to 230 missionaries! And I guess we have a group just as big coming out
next transfer. Almost everyone in the mission is training right now... not
really, but a good amount. Ok so later in the day we went and picked up the new
missionaries with the AP's, President and the Houses. I drove our van and Elder
Prestwich drove the truck. We had two 12 passenger vans. Plus the Houses van,
Presidents car and the Assistants car. We spent the rest of the night with the
new missionaries at the mission home. I got to do some training with them. Told
them about the mission finances and using their cards etc. It was pretty cool
to see (Sister Hall). So long story but I did not get pictures at the
airport because the service elders made us late to the airport because they
were using our truck. So we got there as they were picking
up their luggage. But I got some other pictures of her with the group throughout
the night. We take pictures of all the new missionaries with President &
Sis. Schaefermeyer, and then a "Mug shot". I got to take all of them. We did go back to
the office for a little after that.
So we opened up 9 new
apartments!!! Crazy. Luckily we were able to deliver most of the mattresses
over the weekend instead of having to worry about it this week. It took a lot
of phone calls and coordinating to figure things out with all the landlords and
apartments. We actually had one of our landlords die over the weekend, and we
found out Monday that the family didn’t want us to move in anymore. So we had
to hurry and find a new apartment in time for transfers. Luckily it all worked
out.
Wednesday - We had
the conference call in the morning at the church with President and the
Goldens. I spent the day doing lots of things, calling utility companies and
getting electric and gas set up for the new apartments, updating our system
from transfers and other post transfer stuff. At 5 we had the Golden/trainer
dinner. So we fed close to 70 people with all the trainers, goldens and office
people there! We got all the goldens and trainers paired up etc. Then we had
lot of office stuff to do after. Since a majority of the new apartments were
going to the sisters that were training we had most of our craziness that
night. We had to give them all phones, keys, supplies, phone numbers,
addresses. Answer questions. Drive people around etc. We helped the new
Broomall Sisters (who replaced us) get moved into their new apartment. Its
Sister Bowler (Trainer) and Sister Foote (golden) they are both really cool! We
have a good district.
Thursday - So it was
my first time teaching District Meeting! I had very little time to prepare
since we were so busy with everything else. We had about 10 people there, 2
extra sister companionships, because they had stayed at the Mission Home the
night before because their apartments were so far away. So we had 6 sisters
there and 4 elders. The meeting went pretty good though. I get to take all the
things that I’ve ever liked from past District Meetings and put it into mine
and make it how I want to do it. So I obviously involved as much
technology as possible. But
yeah it went good. We went and ate at Freddy's with the Broomall Sisters after.
We helped them get more stuff for their apartment throughout the day and told
them about their area etc. We were in the office the rest of the day. Normally
we would have gone to the Baileys but not anymore! We can say good bye to
members having us over for dinner! College students are not going to have us
over for dinner so we will mostly be on our own now.
Friday - Was just an
office day, we drove to a few places, and did office work. We went with the
Sisters again to buy some stuff for their apartment. We helped them get everything set up and got them a
map of their area. They are almost all set. Once they get things going in their
new area they are going to have lots of success. We had lots of people that had
potential that we weren’t able to give enough time too.
Saturday- Today we’re
pretty much just chilling. I cut my hair this morning. We don’t really have
anything planned today. We don’t really have anything to do in our new YSA area
yet. We still need to get with the Assistants and have them show us around etc.
I have no idea how to do missionary work in a YSA, because our target is a specific age
group of people. So we just can't go knock doors, because we’re going to run
into a bunch of old married people. So this is going to take a little to get
used too. I guess the singles ward has a little ‘munch and mingle” after church
every week. We have ward council and church tomorrow so we will be able to meet
everyone. Us and the AP's are thinking we’re not going to split the area, we’re
just going to share the same investigators and whoever is around and has time
can teach the investigators. So I think it should work well. I think we’re just
going to have a shared Google calendar on our iPod’s and so we will all always
know when things are scheduled in the area.
Ahhhh, well that was
the week. This next week shouldn’t be too busy, especially since I can't pay
anybody. I’ve been working on organizing my desk space and the
office. My desk is sooo much cleaner then how Elder Bailey had it. He had
stacks of papers everywhere, so I’ve bought the stackable paper trays etc.
and organized a lot of stuff. I’m trying to get everything to run a
lot smoother.
Chow,
Elder Jensen
