April 13, 2013

Hey!                                                                                                                                                                           April 13, 2013
We had a pretty good week! We also had some really good teaching appointments and some miracles. We set somebody with a Baptism date, which I’ll talk about later in the letter.
Well hope Jared and Grandma Great had a good birthday! It's cool that Dad was able to go spend time with Grandma up in Idaho for her birthday. Glad Jared liked the shirt. I got it made at a t-shirt shop in Philly. They have a lot of pre-made designs, and you can choose what color design and shirt, size etc. And it's $5. I want to get some for the rest of the family; I just would need to know preferences on sizes, colors and what you would want on the shirt. They have like the LOVE park logo, or ones that say Philadelphia like on the back of Jared’s shirt, Philly skyline etc.
Mom - I’m pretty sure the Halloway's are the ones replacing the Weyland’s. So I will be working with them a little or a lot. They come out pretty soon! Exciting news, we found out who the replacements for the Houses (office couple) will be. And I think you will think it’s cool who they are & where they are from. So their names are Craig & Glenda S. from... Price, Utah. So the Boyack’s will have to let me know if they know them or not! Elder House actually grew up in Price also! I’m going to send you a picture of them too. No word on a replacement for the Baileys yet, not sure if we will have one for a while... So me and Elder Prestwich do something’s together but we also have our own personal responsibilities for our positions.  So I am the Financial Secretary as well as an Office Elder and he is the Records Secretary. So for example he will never be paying the bills and I will never be entering in baptism records etc. We picked up 5 new Corolla's this week. Yup your right that totals to 17 new cars in the last bit. This morning we have Elder Jensen from the transportation department Under the Missionary Department. He told us that because of the age change they have had to purchase an extra 3,500 cars for the US and Canada. He said that totals to about $60 Million dollars in extra cars. Then he said think of all the new apartments that have been bought. And with the 58 new missions, that's 58 new Mission homes that need to be bought etc.
Mom I will see what I can do about getting that email sent to the Moms of the new missionaries. Haha, this last transfer I actually got a call from a Mom in Utah asking if the group of missionaries had arrived safely. I didn't catch what her name was. But it's definitely possible; I will just have to talk to Sister House about it, since that's in her territory. She may just like it how she's been doing it for the past while... But we will see ;)
I went over to the Mission home this morning so that Sister Schaefermeyer could look at my pants to fix them, since they are baggy. So she's going to see what she can do. Well Kenzie H. will be here in 4 weeks! Sister House always displays all the pictures of the incoming missionaries that everyone always looks at when they come through the office and her picture is one of them!
Ok well I think that answers most of your questions.
Here's a little bit of what we did this week:
On Monday us and the other Broomall Elders went over to Brother R. house for dinner, he's a really nice old single guy in the ward. He’s the Choir director; he takes good care of the missionaries. Tuesday - we officially started driving the minivan as our assigned car. I was sad to lose our Chevy Cruz.. But the van has some cool stuff - automatic doors and all the seats fold down into the floor. It will definitely make things nice for picking up missionaries and other things for the office. Tuesday night Elder Prestwich got to meet J.P. because he got dropped off pretty early for mutual and we were still at the office. So we had him come into the office and watch some conference with us. After that we decided to stop by one person before heading home for dinner. It was the Dixons. I’m not sure if you remember me talking about them, Part Member family. Just the Dad and 3 kids, the Dad is the member. Anyways they were home which is super rare, and he let us right in, offered us cinnamon rolls. We talked to the boys, Taft the older one (12) had been reading the Book of Mormon Stories book we gave him. So we read some of the stories with the two boys. One of the stories talked about people getting baptized and then they both asked how they can get baptized. So we explained it a little to them and their Dad's fine with it. So we didn’t want it to seem like we had only came over there to get them baptized. So we set up an appointment for Sunday night (dinner) and were going to set them with Baptism dates then. Their Dad isn't able to make it to church because of his work hours so we’re going to have a member pick them up. President has had interviews this week, so he's been busy with that and we've been making sure he has all the right mail and packages and other missionary supplies for him to bring to each of the interviews. Wednesday - was another good day. Did office work, made the sickle thruster.  Then we had a teaching appointment with one of our new investigators - It is a member’s Fiancé. His name is Moylan. Anyways it went super well and he kept telling us how he's been feeling soo good as he has come to church the past few weeks etc. And he explained how it was totally the spirit. It was pretty cool. But we were able to set him with a baptism date of June 23rd, which it will most likely be sooner because he's going to be ready pretty fast. So we were excited about that. Yesterday was kind of a long day. We were in the office for a while. The Baileys and Houses left the office a little early so we were in charge of answering the phones etc. We also had some service to do, but some other missionaries needed the truck for a few hours. So once they were done with it, we headed to Jersey to drop a few things off for missionaries. We got home around 11 last night. The truck is going to be in the shop all next week to get a lot of stuff fixed on it from missionaries. I found out we’re opening 6 new apartments this next transfer. We have 13 sisters coming out. The transfer after that we have more sisters then elders coming out. Not sure if I’ve told you all this.
You may have also heard, but there is a new leadership position for sister missionaries. It’s called Sister Trainers or something like that. Basically they just go on exchanges with other sisters and they will be part of the new Missionary leadership council, so that will be interesting. The church said that all the regular leadership positions will still be held by Elders. The number of sisters we have is going to almost double in the next two transfers. And they are all pretty much going to have to be training even if they are new. Which is just crazy, but it seems normal now. That wouldn't even be considered a year ago.
Well I think that's about it. I’m curious I heard that when missionaries reach the point where they have 6 months left that the Family gets their travel plans or something like that. I guess I should know since I work in the office. Let me know if you get anything in the future.
It's starting to get closer and closer to the senior couples and President going home. It’s really weird. They repainted the mission home this last week. They are starting to get things ready for the new Mission President. They are starting to contact President about when to come and pack his stuff up etc. But it's not until July so we've got some time.
Well that's it!
Later!
-Elder Jensen
