Hey what up? The hurricane is what’s up
here! But I will talk about that later in the letter. Well... I was
transferred!! Which was kind of a surprise, because I thought I would be in
Milford for a while. Monday we had dinner with the Houses, and then we had an
appointment with a new investigator that wanted to convert us as much as we
wanted to convert him. Then we saw the Seguines. I was packing all weekend and
also right before I left our apartment. Tuesday - Brother Haws drove us down to
Broomall, PA for Transfers, a lot of my other missionary friends were down
there too, a lot of our MTC group. And I got transferred to Olney! Which is
just a part of Philadelphia. So I’m in the City!!!! My companion is Elder Rabe.
I am his 2nd companion; he's been out for 12 weeks. He is from Westpoint, UT.
Funny thing about me being transferred here is that I’ve been in this area a
few times. Elder Thayne from my MTC district served here for 8 months, during
the same time I was in Medford. So Elder Fredrickson and me actually stayed
over here a few times when we came to the city for P Day and I was on exchange
with Elder Thayne here once. We don’t have a car; we rely off of public transportation.
It’s called SEPTA, so we ride the buses and subway everywhere and do a ton of
walking. There are row homes everywhere. I've been in mostly suburb/rural
areas so this is a pretty big change. It's been good so far; it’s taking some
time to get used to. Everything is completely different then what I’m used to,
but the people here are really friendly. Like no one avoids us or runs away
when they see the missionaries. Everyone says hi to each other when they walk
past you on the streets. And almost anyone is willing to talk. It's crazy here
though there is trash everywhere!!! Crazy traffic, people parking their cars in
the middle of the street and people walking in front of cars. People blasting
their music, tons of swearing, everyone is on their cell phone here or has
earphones in. And people here have lots of drama. Oh another thing, my last
area was totally Romney territory. Like people had signs everywhere, and we would
have people say Go Romney to us all the time. It’s completely opposite here.
Obama signs everywhere. Sometimes when people find out who we are they say who
are you voting for? You’re not voting for Romney right? haha and we just say
idk, we can't take sides since we represent the church. But I really do know because
I sent my absentee ballot in Wednesday!!! Oh also everyone smokes here. I had a
headache my first few days, because of all the smells and noises here.
I am also Senior Companion now too!!
Which is cool, not that it changes a whole lot but it’s nice to finally be the
one that’s been out longer.
Ok I’m not really going to give you a
run down of what we did everyday, because I don’t know the names of all the
people we saw or where we went etc. Elder Mitchell my trainer is one of my Zone
Leaders, he actually attended our District Meeting this week. He goes home at
the end of this transfer. I remember when he was out a year when he was
training me... We stop by a ton of people here, like all we do all day is stop
by potentials and formers, and no body is ever home. So far we've had less
appointments here then in my last area, which doesn’t seem right. But we do
teach a lot of mini lessons when we talk to people on the street and bus.
Friday we were able to set an investigator with a date. His name is Rishie and
he actually lives across the street from us. Oh forgot to mention, so the name
of this Ward is called Logan. And we actually have 2 sets of missionaries
sharing the ward. So we just have one half and they have the other. Which is a
little confusing. Like if we meet someone and they live in the other
missionaries area we have to hand it over to them. We have a nice newer
building right in the middle of the rest of the city. It has bars on all the
windows and a big gate around the parking lot. It’s actually right next to
Burger King. Saturday night we had a Ward Halloween party. So I was
able to meet some of the members. And its almost like were in a Utah young college couples
ward. It’s all young couples going to school! And a ton of them are from Utah.
I think it was Friday night when we found out about the Hurricane. We
were supposed to have Zone conference today (Monday) Elder Pieper from the 70
was going to come talk to us. But I guess his flight got cancelled. They also
told us to make sure we have some extra water. Sunday morning we had
PEC and Ward Council. This ward is great about Missionary work!! Like its weird
because they are actually doing all the stuff they are supposed to be doing to
help the missionaries with there work. My last area we had ward council once...
Here we have either ward council or PEC every week like my first area. Church
was good. After our morning meetings we went and picked up Rueben. He is one of
our investigators, he is blind. So we helped him walk to the church.
Ok so we have this lady in our ward
that the missionaries call Mom. And there is a reason for that. She does a ton
for the missionaries. She makes all 4 of the missionary’s lunches every Sunday
and she brings a ton of food to the church for us to take home, like bags of
food from the store. And she does our Laundry for us too! Like she stopped by
today to make sure we had enough food for the storm and she even went and got
some more food for us and dropped it off. It’s awesome! Also Sister Lee from
the Frankford Branch came and gave me a cake and two boxes of Twinkies. Which
was really cool too. Our Bishop is doing really good preparing for the storm.
He is making sure all the home teachers have daily contact with all their families
during the storm. After church we mostly had stop-by's for the night, did a lot
of walking. It started to lightly rain Sunday night.
So today is My Birthday. We are
supposed to stay in all day because of the Hurricane. Its also P Day but we
can't really do anything. This was definitely not what I was picturing my 20th
birthday to be like when I was a kid, haha. Its been raining all day. The wind
was blowing pretty hard during the night. I’m thinking were going to be stuck
inside tomorrow also. Tuesday and Wednesday we have to be in by 6 pm anyway
because of Mischief night and Halloween. But I opened everything that people
sent me. Thanks everyone that sent me stuff and cards!! Were just hanging out
today. I’m going to catch up on writing people letters. We watched one of the
Episodes of the District from BYUtv. Which like I’ve said we've seen
them already, but not in a TV show format when we watch it. It’s really cool huh? Other
then the power going out, the storm shouldn’t really affect us, other then
making us bored too. Luckily we have our Cell phone.
to stay in contact with people. All the schools are closed over here, and its
pretty quiet outside, no one is out. So the address I gave you for Phillip Street
is "Mom's" house. So whichever address you send things too I will get
it. I got letters at both addresses this week. But if you send a package sent
it to her address. This will be an interesting and exciting week. Today is my Birthday;
I’m experiencing my first Hurricane, got Halloween and my 1-YEAR mark on
Friday!!!! Yay!! Pretty soon you will be able to say that I will be home
in less then a year. Just think it used to be 2!! Crazy...
Well have a good week. I will try to
keep you informed about the storm etc. But I think we will be fine.
Oh forgot to mention, I ran into a
crazy guy last week, and got my first "death threat”.... it was
interesting. You can ask Dad for the story I somewhat told him about it.

Pictures will have to come later. Don't
have a library card yet.
