Heey! Nov. 12, 2012
Well we had a pretty
good week! We found 6 new investigators this week! That's the most I’ve ever
got on my mission!! I had a really good day yesterday! I was able to attend
Dawn's baptism!! I will tell the full story later in the letter. Ok
so starting out with Last Monday, we did some shopping, emailed, and mailed a
package to Danny in Honduras. Tried to write some letters, cleaned the
apartment. Then we went over to the Germantown missionaries apartment. (They
are the ones that share the ward with us.) The Zone Leaders were also there.
(Elder Mitchell being one of those.) We just played some games together. Then
we all went to Burger King together for dinner. We just had stop by's that
night. I talked to a girl at a bus stop and convinced her to quit smoking, and
got her interested in our quit smoking program. We haven't heard from her
since, but hopefully were able to teach it to her sometime. The quit smoking
program is a really good way to get new investigators here cause everyone
smokes!! It's kind of funny, I will ask someone "who do you know that
wants to quit smoking?" And some will say quit smoking what, weed? or they
will list other stuff. Or cigarettes? haha and I say no just cigarettes!!
But we do have an addiction recovery class for that other stuff, only in Philly....
Tuesday - Most of the morning was stop by's and going to the library. That
night we went over to the Carter's for dinner. They are a young couple from the
west, going to school here. They are pretty cool, we had breakfast for dinner! Yum.
Then Brother Carter came out teaching with us (my first time in a car in 3
weeks.) We went and had a short FHE with a lady in our ward. Wednesday - We
went on exchange, so I was with Elder Potesio in his area (Germantown) we had a
really good exchange. I found out he just joined the church 2 years ago and
came on a mission! He grew up in Utah and converted while attending the U.
That night we taught a Less Active lady and her non-member sister and
the sisters "guy friend", and we committed both of the non-members to
be baptized in Dec! It was really cool. And we got them really excited to come
to church, and they were there yesterday! Thursday - We had District meeting.
It was on "Our Purpose". We kind of had a slow night. We
dropped one of our investigators that had a baptism date, because he wasn't as
interested/committed as we thought. Friday we had a few appointments. We taught
a recent convert girl who is around 10 years old. She was very quiet while we
taught her, so we tried to ask her lots of questions. We taught a new
investigator, her name is Debbie. She is catholic, but slightly open. She
talked a lot so we didn't get very far with the Lesson. We are going back over
tonight. Then we taught Frank he is also a recent convert, we just did a review
of all the lessons to make sure he had been taught everything. Saturday - So we
we’re supposed to be in New Jersey all day helping with the clean up efforts,
but I guess the area we were supposed to go to was so bad that they still weren’t
letting people in. So were planning on this Saturday instead. Since we were
planning on being gone all day we didn’t have plans so we mostly just did stop
by's all day. We had Chinese with the other missionaries for lunch
together. Ok Sunday - We had meetings starting at 8:30, first PEC and then Ward
council. Then we had to pick up a couple investigators. Well just one, the
other wasn’t' home. We picked up Rueben the blind guy we’re teaching. He's also
not completely "all there" and he was a little crazy today. We had to
take him to Dunkin' Donuts so he could get his coffee before church. Then he fell
asleep during church... so I guess the coffee didn’t help. We also had Rishie
there, he lives across the street from us and he has a baptism date also. Church
was good; it was crazy because we had to take Rueben back after sacrament. We
were running all over. Then we had to leave early, and took the Subway down to
Center City, to meet President & Sister Schaefermeyer. They picked us up
down there to go to Dawn's baptism. Medford is 30 min's away from Philly so it
was a short ride. But it was cool to get to ride with them! I got to
ask president questions about stuff I had been wondering about. He
confirmed that our number of missionaries would go up from 170 to 250. He said
probably starting in January. We got to Medford, I was able to see a lot of the
ward members! I gave a talk on Baptism. Then we gathered for the baptism in the
RS room. it was Awesome!!! We have
all been waiting for that day for a while!! I know Dawn was really looking
forward to it! President Corbitt was there; he talked and also had the
Schaefermeyers speak since they were also there. It was sooo good to be in
Medford again and see the Mass Family as well as anyone else. That was probably
the last time I will be back there in a long time, unless I serve around there.
But 4 out of the 5 of the Mass family are now Baptized!!! Cool huh!! They can
now all go do baptisms at the temple together! We had to leave right after because
President had other meetings and lots of traveling. So that was our week! It
was pretty good!
It has been pretty
cold here! I had the coat and scarf out last week. But yesterday and today it’s
around 65!! Which is soo nice. I’ve got lots of letters to write today. And we
might go visit a nice park/river area and get some cool pictures. I got a sweet
new tie last Monday from Ross. And I’ve got a ton of complements on it! haha
it's sweet. Mom to answer your question we live very close to the Church. About
3 blocks or something like that. We usually take the subway to it, because
there is a station right by our house and right by the church. Depending on
when the sub comes etc. It takes about like 3 minutes once were on the sub.
Have fun with all the Snow over there!!
