July 2012
Wow, I can’t believe its July!!! Crazy stuff. Even crazier...today is my 8 Month Mark!!! Sweet huh? And we’re a little more then halfway through the year!
Last Monday we celebrated my Companions Birthday with the House Family. We went bowling with them, and had a really good dinner over at their house. Tuesday we did a lot of service (I can pretty much say that for everyday actually). We helped a guy take the cover off his pool, and then we mowed his lawn and helped with a few other things around his house. Then we helped Bruce (he's kind of an investigator, but we mostly help him with service I think). We went to some place that had just got a new roof, and they had thrown all the old shingles and scraps into a pile, and the shingles had been sitting there for a while in a puddle. So they were all wet and soggy. We had to pick them up and throw them in the back of a truck. It was kind of gross, and it stunk. That night we went over to the Hess Families home for Dinner. She is the RS President here. Wednesday, we worked more on our Finder Binder. It’s a pretty long process. We have to map our area on Google Maps, and some other complicated stuff. That day we taught Charles, he’s one of our investigators. His house is really dark, so we sit in his living room with one tiny lamp on. We have given him a Book of Mormon and he seems to like our message. He wants to quit smoking so were going to help him with that. While we were teaching him, one of his friends was there, and we asked her if she wanted to quit smoking too. She said, "no I don’t smoke much...no more then a pack a day" ha ha. I guess a pack a day isn’t very much. ;) That night we helped with something called “Food for Friends”. Its at a Quaker meeting house, they provide meals for needy people and they have church groups provide the food and people to serve it. So we went over and helped our Branch with that. Thursday, we had District Meeting. Then after that we helped our Branch Mission Leader move to his new house. It is pretty close to his old one, but we were over there for a long time helping them move. They had a lot of heavy wood furniture. That night we went over to the Kelly's house. They are investigators. They are Catholics but not really practicing. But they have been meeting with missionaries for about a year. I guess we go over there every week to either read with them or teach them. We’re going to start teaching them the lessons again. I tried to get to know them a little, and they really like our church, and they said meeting with the missionaries has helped their family a lot. Saturday, we went over to Brother Hinkels house to help him with his roof. He had some streaks from mold I guess on his roof that he wanted to get off. So we were over there for a really long time. We had to get up there and spray it with some chemicals, and then scrub the roof with a brush. Then we had to rinse it off, then sprayed some foam stuff on his roof then had to scrub it again. I never thought I would be scrubbing someone’s roof, ha ha. It was a pretty hot day, and I got sunburned just a tiny bit. Hopefully it turns into a tan ha ha ;) Oh I also had Spam for the first time at his house, Ha. It was pretty good. Sunday was good. They don’t have a lot of young men. So I helped bless the Sacrament. That was my first time blessing in 8 Months or more!!
Here's a good scripture we shared with a family yesterday. Its D&C 123:12 " For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are ablinded by the subtle bcraftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to cdeceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they dknow not where to find it—"
So we talked about how the church is in the news so much, and how so many people are talking about our church and asking questions, and so many people are searching for the truth with out even knowing it. So we as members can help by answering peoples questions and sharing the gospel with them. Being a good example is one of the best things we can do right now.
I get to talk to Zach Harris on Facebook every now and then. He just got transferred to his second area sounds like. Something like the Finger Lakes area in NY, and his companion is from PG!
Trying to think if I’m missing anything. Oh we have interviews with President this week.
That’s about it I think. I would like to get some letters!! Haven’t got any in my new area yet. :( ha
Love ya, have a good week!! Oh I’ve heard a lot about the fires in Utah and Colorado. Crazy stuff!
