Hey! How's it going? Jan.
26, 2013
Well we had
a very busy week, and we got a lot done in the office. I also learned a lot. So
I already told you a little bit about what we did last Monday. That's the day
that all the numbers come in from all the areas. Elder Bailey has to do all
sorts of stuff with that info that he receives. The way that it was being
done was kind of a pain and had lots of bugs. So this whole week we've been
working on a new way to report numbers etc. Pretty much everything we are doing
in the office will now involve Google Docs. It's free and everything we do will
be accessible anywhere. In just our first week in the office we have made
a lot of good changes that will affect the whole mission. I’ve drove though Philly several times
now. Yesterday we were in a snow storm
with insane traffic in Philly for HOURS. But I will talk about that later. So I
think I’m just going to talk about what we did this week instead of going day
by day. So every morning at 9:30 we come into the office for our "office
devotional". Us and the Bailey's
and House's meet together, sing a song, share a thought and then go over what
we will all be doing that day. Then we go to work. The office Hours are from 9
to 5. We’re usually there a little longer, because once the office closes we
finally get time to work on our projects or "to do's". So here are
some of the projects we have worked on this week. We made an Online form for
the Missionaries to submit Service needs, an online form to submit referrals -
right now they have to call a number and leave a message, then Sister Bailey
has to listen to the messages and write down the info. Now when they fill out
the form the info will be put into an excel sheet. We also made a similar thing
for ordering "commissary" - so basically any supplies that
missionaries need, pass along cards, books etc. So right now it’s also done by
leaving a voicemail. So we made a new online form for that and it also goes
into an excel sheet. We also re-did the way that numbers are reported, which is
also all through Google Docs. Friday was Zone Leader Council, that’s when all
the Zone leaders travel to the Office the last Friday of every month, and they
get trained and get announcements/info for their zones. So we worked really
hard on all of our stuff to be ready in time for that meeting. And then we
presented it to all the Zone Leaders, I got to use Presidents iPad hooked up to
a TV to demonstrate everything. Everyone was really impressed! President also
liked everything; afterwards he came up to me and asked if I could help fix his laptop. We also got to see a lot of the guys from my MTC district because 4 of
them are Zone Leaders. We also helped prepare the food for their lunch and then
ate with them. Every Thursday night we have dinner/coordination meeting at the
Baileys home with our ward mission leader. So we had that for the first time
this last Thursday. Oh we also went over to this other active members home for
dinner this week. As far as work in our area, we usually do that at
night. It’s been hard because it’s dark and cold by when we get out, so it’s
not a good time to knock or tract, it's also late so we need to be sensitive to
whose door we knock on. We don’t really have a lot to go off of in this area, because
it’s been closed for a little bit and there weren’t many people being taught
before. So were really hoping that we will be able to rely on the members to
help us find people and give us referrals. Today is going to finally be
our first kind of full P-Day, so were going to finish unpacking, clean the heck
out of our apartment and write letters. We had to do a couple service things
this morning, and tonight we have to drop off some new beds for Sister Stamm
and her companion, and then were probably going to stop by the House family
from my old area since we will be close to them. Friday is our day to do
Service, the other 2 companionships in our district also have a day during the
week, so it’s split between all of us. Mom- the other two missionaries that
share the ward are Elder Witte and Elder Shaw (he's brand new). Anyways so
yesterday after that zone leader meeting, we left to go do our service. The Doylestown
sisters needed new beds. So whenever someone needs mattresses, we have to go
pick some up in NE Philly at a warehouse, it’s like 40 minutes away. So on our
way there it starts snowing; it’s kind of also during rush hour through Philly.
Anyways it was a mess!! Our plan was to pick up the beds and then go up to Doylestown
drop them off then be back in Broomall by 6 for a dinner appt. Well traffic was
so bad that we had to cancel the dinner appt. and not go up to Doylestown at
all. It took us about 6 hours to go pick the mattresses up and come back, it
was ridiculous. It snowed a lot but the roads weren't even that bad, but
everyone was driving soooo slow. Our average speed was like 6 mph. Anyways so
it was a long day. So were going to bring them their beds tonight instead, and
it will hopefully be a lot quicker this time.
Well I think that’s a good summary of
what we did this week! We love working with the Office couples, and the
Assistants and President! We’re doing some good stuff here, making stuff
a lot easier for everyone. Oh I get to go to Jersey this Thursday with Elder
House, it’s for a Zone Training and he wants us to come with him. That will be
cool, also possibly have interviews with president.
Love,
-Elder Jensen
