sup! Sept.
10, 2012
How's it going? Well we had an interesting week, especially towards the end part of the week. Ok, starting with the beginning. Monday - It was raining like all day, it was also labor day so the library was closed and so were a few of the stores we wanted to shop at ;( Holiday's are not as fun as a missionary. Also we were going to go over to the House's to do our laundry as usual and I was also going to cook dinner for them. But they had some flooding problems etc. in their house, so we couldn't come over. While we were shopping we ran into the Adams family, and they offered to let us come over and do laundry and have dinner with them. We turned them down because we were still thinking that we were going to the House's. But then we got a call from Brother House and he told us about the chaos that was going on at their house. So we called the Adams and took them up on their offer! We did our laundry at their house, and their son is about to leave on his mission so we answered a lot of questions for them about mission stuff. Then we also had dinner with their family. Then we went and visited an older Less Active lady, who was super nice and is really not less active she just can’t come because she has to work on Sundays. She was really cool, and we got a referral from her to go see her daughter who isn’t a member. Tuesday- we went and taught Kathy as we usually do on Tuesdays. We had Brother Glaser come with us to teach her. We taught her about church/Sabbath day. We were able to get her to set a date to come back to church. That night we were supposed to see the Kelly's our investigator family, but they cancelled. So we just headed over to Emmaus and dropped by the Messier's. They let us in and they were preparing dinner and actually invited us to eat with them! Which was really cool. The Messiers are converts from a while ago, they joined in California and they have been in PA for about 4 years. But while they have been here they have been kind of less active. She works on Sunday’s, but she just barely got permission to not work on Sundays so she can go. She also has an awesome visiting teacher that has been sending her letters and messages for a while. So Sunday Brother and Sister Messier came to church and sat by us!!! It was really cool! Wednesday - In the morning we had our first appointment with Gary our new investigator. It went very well, for the first part we mostly just talked to him and his wife. They were both super nice, Jen his wife like instantly started acting like a mother figure once she found out that were far away from home etc. She invited us over for dinner and was asking what our mom's would usually make for us that we missed so that she could make it. Haha it was kind of funny but really nice of her. But the teaching part of the appointment went really good, we had previously given Gary a Restoration Pamphlet, and he had that thing down! Like we review it with him and I almost felt dumb for teaching him something he already knew. haha like he knew all the definitions of the words and had the dates down etc. I like it when investigators actually do their homework ;) We gave him a Book of Mormon, which he was excited to get, and also invited him to church and he told us that he would be there! Later that day we went and had dinner with the Seguines and then taught them Lesson 3, The Gospel of Jesus Christ. After that we went over to Bruce's house and helped Trisha with her website a little more. We haven't worked on it for a while. Thursday - We had Zone Training over in Kutztown. Brother Johnson from our branch drove us over cause it was 20 miles away. We talked about the importance of the spirit in conversion and as we teach. We went over to the Mientus' house for dinner, and got stuffed! And also had a good time with them. Then that night we just stopped by Less Actives in the Pennsburg area. Friday- we went over to Danny's house to help him out. We didn’t paint the fence this time, but we cut some vines and grass that were growing through the chain link fence so that we could cut it next time. Thursday was a pretty awesome day and I will tell you why. Kevin M. texted us in the morning and told us that he would be in the area for work that day and asked if we wanted to have lunch with him. I told him we definitely wanted too! So we were able to meet up around 4:00 at TGI Friday's and had lunch with him. Which was awesome!! It was soo good to talk to him in person vs. on FB chat and to see him!! We talked about his family and everything that is going on, like with Autumn just getting baptized and now Kyra deciding to be baptized etc. So it was really cool and made my day!! Then that night we met with the Coull's a part member/ less active couple. They were really cool and we got to know them a little bit. We asked the husband if he would be willing to listen to the lessons and he said yes, so we will be going over there every week to see them. Saturday - We met up with Brother Johnson at the church because he had been invited to speak at a Mennonite church about our church. So we helped him prepare what he was going to say. Then we went over to Bro. Hinkels house, and he drove us over to the Hess's house. The Hess's are moving soon to South Carolina and they have lots of firewood that they don’t need. So we helped Bro. Hinkel load his trailer with wood and then also helped him stack it at his place. After that we headed over to Gary and Jen's to have a BBQ with them. We helped him make the meal by washing and cutting stuff etc. And also talked to them a lot and answered a lot of questions. They are awesome!! And its crazy how much they like us already, and she has already caught on to the whole feeding the missionaries thing. Were going back over on Tuesday to teach the Plan of Salvation and then to clean/organize their basement and then to have dinner with them! :) After that we had a 2nd dinner with the Forsythe/Camp family. Which was good also. We are trying to work with the whole family to get them back to church. The son who is in his 30's has come to church the last 2 Sundays and bore his testimony last Sunday. He was also their yesterday, and his mom will most likely be there next week. Ok Sunday - well we had church. Gary came!!! And sat next to us. As well as the Messiers and they sat with us also! So church was good! It’s really cool to see these people we’re working with come too or back to church!! Ok now some not so good news. During sacrament we got a call/voicemail from Leslie our investigator with a Baptism date. So we went out to the hallway and listened to it... And she had called to tell us she no longer wanted to meet with us. Which is one of the worst things for a missionary to hear. And I was especially sad because I really liked Leslie she is a really nice lady who was really interested and things were going well. She told us that she was feeling to much pressure from the whole thing and wanted to call it off for a while. Well I really, really didn’t want her to drop us and I figured that if we were able to talk to her that we could figure all this out. So after church I called her... And we figured it out :) Turns out having a Baptism date was really stressing her out and that she wanted to move at a slower pace. So I told her to forget about the date, and we don’t want to push you at all it's completely your choice, but we would love to continue to come over. I asked her if we could still come over for our appointment we had made for Monday night and she said... Yes! ;) She also mentioned that she had been reading the Plan of Salvation Pamphlet that we gave her, and that she was reading the part about the Pre-existence. She said she had never heard about that before and that she really liked it a lot. I told her we are the only church that teaches that. She told me she loves everything we’re teaching her, and that it's a little scary how much everything is making sense, haha. But I was so relieved! So were going over tonight hopefully to figure everything out! Ok Sunday evening we went over to the Glasers house for dinner. We had a good time there. Their non-member daughter in law was there and sat in during the message that we taught. She is from Mexico so that was kind of cool. After that we went over to the Deckers. Sister Deckers son Brian is leaving on his mission super soon, so we just told him what to expect at the MTC and answered all their questions that they had. Mom you know how that is. Then we shared the scripture in D&C about bringing one soul unto Christ. Which is an awesome scripture. I told him about how one of the coolest parts about going on a mission is seeing the gospel change people's lives. And I told them about Autumn and how much she had changed so quickly and how we just attended her baptism. He's going to the Portland, OR mission.
Ok so that was the week. We found out that me and Elder Bury will be staying in this area together for another 6 weeks. Kyra M. has been talking to me and she is planning on getting baptized Sept 23rd right now. But I’ll let you know. Once the leaves start changing I will send you some pictures, because it’s going to look really cool here, because were surrounded with rolling hills covered in trees.
Have a great week! I’m starting my 8th transfer out of 16... ;) Cool Beans eh? Oh I heard from Elder Kevin Hartley and Elder Danny Harding this last week!
