11/16/11 P-Day
Hey Everyone!
Its P Day finally. Everything is going good here at the MTC. Its
kind of crazy that a week from today i will be in philadelphia!!
Our Second sunday here was really good. i had some leadership
meetings in the morning and then priesthood meeting. After lunch i had
to teach a 45 minute lesson on "Recognizing the Spirit.' i had just
found out that morning that i had to teach the lesson for our district
meeting, so i didnt prepare a ton for it. I had a good outline and some
good scriptures. But i figured it would just be the elders in my
district that i was teaching so they wouldnt really care how good my
lesson was... Well turns out our District President was visiting our
branch that day. (District president's are right under the MTC
presidency) And he just happened to come to our district meeting along
with a member of our branch presidency and his wife. I basically kind of
freaked out when i walked into our classroom and saw them sitting
there. Also our classroom is always soooo hot and so we always take our
suit coats off. But in these kind of meetings we can't take our jackets
off unless the presiding authority says we can. Well we Asked Pres.
Jenkins if we could and he said no.. Great! So i get up in front of
everyone, i'm really nervous and dying hot. So i started the lesson, i
was asking some questions and no one was really answering. it was quiet
and awkward. We read 2 verses from Nephi, talked about what they meant
for a second and then i started to move on. Then pres. Jenkins stopped
me and said: how about we ask some more questions. I was like yeah
sure... Luckily he had some questions he wanted to ask so we went into
major detail of these two verses. like we spent 10 mins, looking up
cross references etc. After that i continued with the lesson, and it
went really well. He helped me out a lot during the lesson, by asking
some questions and making some really good comments. We all learned a
ton about the spirit, how we recognize it, why it's important etc. I was
soo glad when it was over. President Jenkins talked in our sacrament
meeting later on, and he mentioned how good my lesson was, kind of cool!
That night we had a fireside. The speaker was Richard I. Heaton he is
some high up dude at the MTC. He talked about why it is so important
that investigators understand Tithing and that they will commit to pay
tithing after they are baptized. He said they are having a big problem
with converts leaving because they didn't understand what tithing was
before they were baptized.
Mom here are the answers to your questions. I wake up around 6:30
usually hang out til 7 to shower. cause there is a big line if you go
right at 6:30. they we have personal study til about 7:50 when we have
breakfast. Then we usually have zone teaching, which is teaching
other elders in our zone. they just pretend to be an investigator. we do
that for about an hour. then we have class til about 12:30 when we go
to lunch. then we will either go back to class for like 4 hours or have
gym or study time depending on the day. but were basically in the same
classroom all day everyday. it can get kind of boring, but we learn
alot. we will usually practice teaching an investigator at least once or
twice almost everyday. It's hard to remember everything about all of our
investigators- what we taught them last, what we invited them to do
etc. I got my free MTC hair cut today:) looks good! I dont think i will
be able to get all of the PG people together to take a pic. we dont see
each other that often and never at the same time. I weighed 120 lbs when
i came her now i weigh 125.
Jared send me some pics of what they are changing around the
school, i want to see all of it. And take pics of the old Letters on the
outside of the highschool, and take pics as they put the new sign up.
Thanks for the package on friday. 11/11/11 was a pretty cool day!
I haven't seen Ethan Richins yet. i just saw rickey and he said he
hadn't seen him either. but i will try to get a pic with him if i do see
him. I am staying very busy as district leader, i pick up the mail for
everyone everyday, i have to teach lessons as you know. i have to
conduct all of our district meeting and lead discussions. And i also have leadership meetings on sunday and tuesday.
Ok Well tuesday night we had our MTC devotional. We really wanted
to have one of the 12 apostles.
It was Tad R. Callister, he is in the Presidency of the 70. His talk
was AWESOME!!! His talk was on the
Apostasy. And how important it is that investigators understand and
believe in the Apostasy. Which is soooo true because if they dont then
they will most likely have a problem believing the first vision and
about joseph smith.
He had a list of ten things that prove the apostasy happenend.
1. The Apostles were killed
2. The apostasy is talked about in the Bible. Good scripture Amos 8:11 i think
3. The bible ended. If Christ's church had continued so would the bible
4. Loss of miracles/ gifts of the spirit.
5. Teaching of Christ lost
7. Prayer was changed. Satan attacked our communication between us and god.
8.Scriptures (the bible) were removed from the people. Mostly only preachers, pastors etc. had the bible
9. At the time of the restoration there was no church with Jesus
Christ in its title. Jesus Christ said that his church should be named
after him.
10. The priesthood was lost. No one else can trace their priesthood all the way back to Christ except us.
Anyways it was a way cool talk. and it helped me out a lot. I took a lot of notes.
Well i have to get off the computer. im actually 12 mins over.. :) oops.
Be safe have fun!
Less then one week!!!!
Love, Elder Jensen :)
